Since lockdown I've re joined one of Manchester's oldest and most exotic parties, One Tree Island as a resident under my 'Balaphonic' moniker.
I first played for them regularly as a percussionist alongside DJs including Mr. Scruff and Guy Gondwana in the very early 90s at the infamous Roadhouse club.
The motto of the night is "Don't Drink From The Mainstream" & the music policy is to explore different rhythms from across the globe (albeit with a very Mancunian twist of course).
It attracts one of the most diverse and friendly dance floor crowds you might encounter anywhere in the world. You should make a point of joining us sometime!
Residents Marco, Citizen Simmo and I rotate throughout the night, shifting order for each party and when it's my turn to finish I always try to play something that ties in our Manc roots and experience.
24 Hour Party People is probably my favourite record of the 'Madchester' era so I decided to make some Samba rubs for that purpose: Here are the 2 versions I've been playing plus a beefed up homage to the sublime original. x 'Strictly Promo Only' Pay as u feel x
