"After recent collaborations with Brazilian Candomble musicians gaining support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Mr. Scruff and Nightmares on Wax Danny Ward's drumcentric 'Balaphonic' project returns with two well tested tracks of percussive heavy globe trotting grooves!

"Thumb Jam" (Moodymanc's All Toes edit) juxtaposes a loop of pygmy throat singing with thumb piano and live percussion with crunchy analogue hi hats and a room shaking dub bass. Originally conceived in lockdown, a live stream jam created an inbox bursting with track ID requests. Think the Orb's 'Towers of Dub' taken on a vinyl hunting expedition across West Africa!

"Krusty" takes a beefed up angle on a classic break to take a lush and deep string and sun drenched intercontinental journey with dreamy vocals and soulful soloing. Perfect for beaches, pool sides and hot summer nights!

The "Moodymanc All Toes Edit" strips back the groove to provide more focus for the dance floor."

From a personal perspective "Thumb Jam" came about after I'd been revisiting U.F.Orb, specifically "Towers of Dub". I went down into the studio, dug out a couple of records of field recordings and started to record myself jamming along on a variety of percussion instruments (starting on Balafon of course!). I later added some cooking pots recorded in my mum's kitchen. The crickets you hear in the background ambience were outside the house!

"Krusty" is a blissed out meeting of South African Townships and astounding South Indian classical musicianship, underpinned by a re-interpretation of a classic break. I guess a nod to Coltrane's "Africa and India" but very much from a Mancunian b boy perspective. (What else?)..
